Auto hubs and defrost control.

Hello everyone,

New to this site, and was hoping that some one would know what this unit is called, and or the part number for it. It's my understanding that it controls the auto locking hubs, and the heating/ac ducts via vacuum control. I have a 06 King Ranch 6.0L Diesel. 4x4, F350.

It's called a PVH Valve or Pulse Vacuum Hublock Valve. They're about $ 30.00 for a Dorman and around $60.00 for a Motorcraft one. I went cheep and bought the Dorman one and it's working fine. Here's a link to an eBay auction.

Here's a genuine Ford one on eBay: Ford part# 7c3z-9h465-a

Before you purchase a PVH valve make sure you CAREFULLY inspect ALL of your vacuum hoses to & from the valve & to the hubs. Especially the rubber ones that run to the hubs. On my V10 I found a section of the poly tubing had melted where it ran down the frame next to the exhaust manifold. I replaced that section with some stainless 1/4" tubing I got from work and bent it to fit with a tubing bender. It will NEVER melt again. I also replaced the rubber hoses with 1/4" drip irrigation tubing - it's UV resistant - I did leave the short rubber hoses from the knuckle to the hub because the poly tubing would kink when turning the wheel lock to lock,

Awesome! Thank you for the help. I spent an hour trying to find that thing on line with no luck, but did find this site! I will take your advise, and go over the lines as you described.

Trouble also

I have a 2001 F250SD CC V10 doing same thing. Replaced lines from knuckle to hubs. They were super brittle. It got better for a while. AC blows out defrost most of the time. When stopped I can switch to 4H and AC will start blowing out dash vents. Switch out of 4H and accelerate goes back to vents.

Block off the lines to the PVH solenoid and see if the AC controls behave themselves. If so, the solenoid is leaking.

Blowing out the defrost ports means you have a vacuum leak.

Here is what I did to mine when I had this problem.

So I have found my vacuum leak. I stopped after work and got the variety pack of vacuum plugs. In the parking lot I pulled off my hoses for the ESOF and capped them. Nothing changed. Just for fun, I put the truck in 4x4 and my vents started working.... for less than a minute, then quit again. The culprit was the solenoid to engage the front hubs. Apparently they are known for cracking. I suppose mine is also in the boat.
