We are now around northern Arizona and southern Utah region and will be here for a few more days. Noticed that much less cold air is coming out of the vents, air is still cold just not nearly as much volume. With the outside temp around 95 today, the cab is getting too warm. Most of the time, when I first start the drive, it blows strong, then gradually or suddenly (don't know) there is only maybe 20% air volume coming out. Could it be something simple? Thx. Erwin
Sounds like it's being blocked. I know it's not the same, but I've been driving around at work lately in a 97' Chevy and hardly any air was coming out of the vents, but the blower was working fine. I pulled the fan from under the dash and inside by the condenser was completely full of sticks and leaves and some mud. After cleaning it, the a/c is blowing great now. I have thought about pulling my fan in the superduty after seeing the amount of junk blocking the work trucks condenser.
Looks clean without taking off the whole cover thing. Will try to take it apart to see. Looks like 4 screws by the windshield and 2 plastic fasteners under the hood on each side. Then take the wiper arms out.
Took off the cover between the windshield and hood. Passenger half is closed by body panels withe a 3 inch access hole. I'm not sure I want to break that on the road since I don't have anything to close it except duck tape. Don't know what to do at this point.
Sounds like an evaporator coil that's icing up. Next time you notice it, shut the A/C off, leaving the fan on and see if airflow returns to normal. If it does, it's ice. If you're parked, you should see more water than normal come from the condensate drain.
