Although it's not apples to apples, we've got a guy in the van forum with a fleet of Ford vans that he runs as long distance passenger vans. He has 4 E vans (~2006) with well over a million miles on the original engines (which are 2V 5.4's). He gets 800,000+ miles out of Ford transmissions. With the cancellation of the E series, he's got a GM van and at 250k has been thru 2 transmissions and now has a dead engine. Not quite in the same league.

I had a Savana van before my E150 and in 66k miles it went thru 3 transmissions, 7 valve bodies, and a bunch of other stuff including intake manifold gaskets, 2 fuel pumps, alternator, starter. Sold my Ford with twice that many miles and no engine or drivetrain problems.

For real miles and long term use, I lean hard toward Ford and that's where I would go if I wanted a pickup. I am assuming GM is doing better these days than they did on my Savana, but that sure didn't leave me feeling good...

I have always owned Chevys, maybe 4 in total my last one was my 2011 which I traded for my current F150.... They both have pros and cons

I left GM because of its active cyl management on its LS motors, forcing a v8 engine to run on 4 cyls not only is **** to drive it burns oil like crazy, kills valve trains and destroys engines..GM took a fantastic motor and killed it .My 5.0 runs 8 cyls 24/7. plus it will blow my 5.3 out of the water in the straights

It all goes by what your neighbor has. If he has a F150 for a Silverado 1500, you need to get an F250 or Silverado 2500.. Go big or go home!

I will tell you one truck Chevy does do right is the Tahoe we have a 15 for traveling and it's nice . Good power 20+ mpg quiet. Ford really needs to step it's expedition game up!! I tried to get my wife to go with the expy but she's right, power train the best, everything else 1997 still.

1) GM = Obama Motors. GM took bailout money which they never really repaid. Obama screwed all the creditors making them take pennies on the dollar that they were owed. That is the #1 reason I would never buy a new Chevy or GM vehicle.

So I guess that leaves Ford to #1 in my book.

The newer F150 is so much nicer than the GM equivalent. Drive them both and see for yourself. The GM trucks are so overpriced.

Actually it shows that GM was pretty savvy and confirmed how stupid Obama is.

I have driven them both and if the GMC had the fluff I was used to with my Ram 2500 4X4 Limited I would have gone with the GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate 4X4 6.2l. I really like the 6.2l engine and 8 speed (I have that combo in my car). I paid close to $4,000 extra over the Denali to get the fluff.

Am I unhappy with the F150? Nah, it's a fine truck and it has all the stuff I want as far as comfort and convenience. Just not as ready to tow what I tow right out of the box as the GMC is. I like em both. Actually I like the Ram, GM and Ford pickups. I would have zero issue owning any of them.

Unless things change with GM I will NEVER buy a GM product!

Those of you who live in more populated areas of the country probably aren't aware of it but a few years ago GM made a corporate decision to close most small-town dealerships. The town nearest me, Winnemucca, Nevada had two GM dealerships - one Chevy, the other GMC. Same with Fallon, Nevada. GM closed them all. So now if you want to buy a GM product you'll find dealerships in the Reno and Las Vegas areas, and one in Elko, Nevada. Seventh largest state in the US and only 3 areas with dealerships! It is 450 miles from Reno to Vegas. If you drive Interstate 80 east from Reno to Salt Lake City, a distance of 520 miles, there is that one GM dealership in Elko, 290 miles east of Reno, and that's all until you get to Salt Lake.

I don't understand why anyone who lives in rural Nevada would ever buy a GM product. Warranty work? Recalls? Better plan on taking a couple days off to get to a dealer!

Are you sure thats a GM thing and not indicative of the economics of the area? I'm not sure how the economy outside the major urban areas in Nevada is.

Sorry guys

This discussion really belonged in the club or Ford Vs. the Competition but, we gave it a lot of room to grow into a political discussion and that's exactly what happened. Now it's closed.
