Starting question

My truck usually starts up great, but every so often it takes 3 to 4 long cranks before it will start. By long cranks I mean more than 4 or 5 seconds of turnover. Seems to be no real rhyme or reason to this. It does it engine cold or hot. I have iPhone engine monitor app and numbers seem fine. Just wondering if any of you guys have had this happen and if so what fixed it. BTW it's a 2005. Any advice will be appreciated

DashBoss? The app can be just a touch laggy. Next time you have to crank more than once, watch ICP (500 to start) IPR (not going to 80+%). Also cam/crank sync (Y), FICM sync (Y), FICM main (45+v), FICM (10+v), FICM logic (12v), injector pulse width (more than zero mS), and RPM (160+). You may only see any issue for a split second (if at all) if you're coming off "start" after only 4-5 seconds. It's safe to crank 15sec or more if it's having issues.

Engine link. It gives me ICP, IPR, FICM info and a host of other info. But no sync info. FICM main never gets Below 48.5 but during start up I have seen 10.5 - 11 from the other two. I don't really like doing 15sec cranks,,, it kills batteries. Lol maybe that's the problem time for new batteries

While it's cranking, what is the ICP from KOEO to running?
Tried parking the truck nose down, let it site overnight and then start it.

KOEO... FICM main 48.50
FICM logic 12.00
FICM 12.00.
Batt 12.12
IPR 14.69%
ICP 1.71 psi
Cranking... ICP 800+ then back to 650+ at idle. IPR 26.29 FICM 48.50-49. FICM logic 12.50-13. FICM 12.50-13. Batt 13.25-13.50. Any time I'm home the nose is down hill because of how drive way is made. However no problems today. Started right up every time I turned the key.

According to Ford, a long crank is 30 seconds.

Any codes?

30 seconds??? That's crazy. No codes. So maybe I'm worried about nothing. But to me that's inconsistent for it to start up almost immediately 90% of the time and then every now and then. Take forever to start.

Not sure I would sweat it. Ours will sometimes fire with authority a split second after hitting the key, other times will crank a few seconds and kind of lope up "I suppose this mean I need to run now" lazy start. I never really worry much about it, just chalk it up to one of those 6.0 things.

Are you running an aftermarket oil filter and cap?

Mine did that for a few months before it spit out an Oring on the passenger side standpipe. I'm not positive it was related but it hasn't done it again since the repair.

Stock cap Motorcraft filter. I did however, put new batteries in it this morning as the old ones were about done for. Guy at the parts store said one batt was only putting out 255 CCA. The other 430CCA. They were supposed to be 750. Thank you guys for all your advice. Hopefully this fixes it. We'll see

Well one thing is for sure even if it's not related, you saved some other headaches getting those worn down batteries out of there.
