To find the leak you will have to degrease that area first to pin point where it is cowing from then it'll be easier for other to help you.

Yes clean it all up. My guess is the HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump)! If it is it's only a couple of o rings to fix it. When they leak it looks like a rear main seal is leaking.

If it's a really small leak you may have to try dye in the oil. My guess given the leaks location is most likely attributed to the hpop. The hpop lines are known to leak.

Where in NC? check the valley for oil, most likely hpop orings as stated. easy fix but you need a tool HPOP Quick Disconnect Hose Removal Tool for Ford 7.3L 99-03 and some orings HPOP 7 O-ring reseal kit - Ford 7.3L (94-03)

Another common spot is the EBPV, that's where my 02 is leaking. I plan to get the delete pedestal when I can get to it.

I can't tell from the photos, is the leak manifesting on the flywheel inspection cover? If so - clean out the valley as best you can, degrease as others have mentioned as well. The ultraviolet dye works great, toss it in the crankcase and check the valley after about 5 miles to start. If nothing, check it after 5-10 more, and repeat until you find it.

There's a plethora of things that can leak up top and end up in the valley, which in turn ends up leaking down to that inspection cover. HPOP, HPOP lines, fittings, oil galley plugs (tare, but it happened to mine), EBPV arm (common) or pedestal (also common), etc. Unfortunately that means that you'll be doing some checking topside, there's no go-to for leaks, especially in your mileage range. It takes some time, but they're easy enough to get sealed up again. Just rolled over 270,000 on mine and I beat the **** out of it daily and it is currently leak free (knock on wood).

Good info in the replies so far. As mentioned You will probably find your oil leak is in the valley of the engine between the heads up top. There is a drain hole at the back of the valley that sends oil out the back and down to where you are seeing it now. Highly suggest you read the second post in this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...he-valley.html

Really good "how to and what" for Valley oil leak from JesserO2ex. Simple green degreaser and low pressure water, several times if necessary to get it clean first.

If your going to pursue wash or any type of watering atop the motor, cover up the alternator and power steering unit..(has a cap with hole in it)...

The good news is that the 7.3 is prone to leaking and is usually a pretty easy fix. There are many, many spots that the engine can leak from on top and then drain down into the valley and out the drain under the turbo and down to the ground. Some people mistake this as a rear main seal leak, which is very uncommon on the 7.3.

Get some Simple Green, a couple of plastic shopping bags (alternator and power steering cap) and a low pressure hose and have at it. Once it is clean and oil is cleared, get a bright light and look for the leak. If that doesn't work, get some UV dye like was recommended to me in the thread below.

Keep us posted with what you find, and we love pictures. Congrats on the new to you best diesel to ever hit the streets of America.
