Hi ,I have a Ford FE 360 with a Accel 52000 distributor and whenever i try to set the timing ,total timing vacuum advance blocked off and initial timing set at 12 deg, the total all in timing will not go past 12 deg on the timing light ,i"ve tried changing the springs, the weights move freely ,the vacuum advance when connected is advancing .but no mechanical advance, Can any one HELP?

At what RPM are you checking the total?

Hi, it doesn't seem to make a difference the rpm range 800 to 3500 it stays at 12 degrees and When driving up a hill it has no power and starts making chugging sound like a train.

You should be able to turn the rotor a few degrees by hand, if it doesn't turn the shaft is probably frozen. I'm not familiar with that distributor but on the stock one you need to remove the rotor and squirt a little oil inside where it will run down the inside of the shaft, you can try that.. add some light oil and keep twisting the rotor back and forth and see if it will loosen up.

Thanks for the reply, but we found out the problem is with the distributor itself ,it was a design fault the mechanical advance gets jammed from the force from the camshaft pulling down ,this was the second Accel distributor(we sent the first one back) that was installed and we have sent it away to be modified by a distributor specialist , apparently they can put a pin in it to stop it binding up.
