Use the brown wire on the headlight switch to switch a relay. Have that relay power your switch to turn the bar on and off.

a auxiliary light wiring harness power wire should go directly to the battery. you can run your on/off switch for the relay trigger through any of the key on power wires in the fuse block such as the radio fuse.

^^ that. Make sure you add a fuse for the power you pull off the battery

Power for what from the headlight switch?

To switch the relay yes, to power the light no.

I forgot to draw a fuse, but here you go. Just fuse at the battery.

your best bet for key on power is under or in the dash, everything under the hood is in a loom and or part of the ECU. that is why ford but those extra wires through the firewall. so you don't go digging into the computer harness.

If you really want some overkill rather than use a relay use a continuous duty solenoid. It looks like a Ford starter solenoid, the four lugs hook up just like a relay, and you can use some seriously large wire with it. Sturdy? It is used as a glow plug relay on a Dodge diesel and as a switch on a 36 volt golf cart.

Do I use it, oh yeah.

Sturdy? I'll Google it, thanks. Sweet.

Okay I'm asking, if in the power distribution box, the unused power locations, had anyone used the terminals in here. That kind if thing

why ?

his light bar draws maybe 15 amps. a typical Bosch style relay is rated for 30 or 40 amps continuous duty and cost about $10. a typical starter solenoid is 100+ amps and good ones start around $50

it's your money spend it as you wish but there is nothing to be gained by using a 100 amp relay when a 30 amp is already twice what is needed.

when they say "unused" the fuse cavity is vacant, meaning no terminals or wire. you would need to run wire and terminals to that slot if you are wanting to integrate your loom into the block for a factory look.
