5.0 vs 3.5 Eco Boost

Just looking for opinions on one engine vs the other, I have a 2013 with the 5.0 and am wondering about the 3.5 Eco Boost.I am thinking of upgrading to a 2016 and wondering is it worth the extra cost for the 3.5? Does it take regular fuel or premium, is the mileage better, and what about the servicing. is it on par or costlier than the 5.0?
Thanks for any info or opinions.

The mileage is similar between those two. The 3.5L EB is the more powerful tow motor, and a bit more "tweaky" because it has so much more low end torque.

The 5.0L is a more simple design, so might have an advantage in terms of longevity, but that doesn't consider that the bottom end of the 3.5L is really, really beefy.

I went Ecoboost 3.5l because I tow from Florida to Michigan and back at least once a year plus 100-500 mile tows as well. I came from a diesel and am used to bottom end grunt. If I didn't tow much, I might go with the 5.0. The Ecoboost is pretty peppy for a truck.

That's an understatement! I had to enter southbound traffic from the south end of Half Moon Bay the other day. Traffic was doing ~~ 55, and I had to cross the northbound lane when a window opened up. So I hit it hard thinking I might inconvenience the car behind as I went from a dead stop up to ~~ 55. Wrong! Instead, I had to hit the binders to avoid over-accelerating into the car in front! I was not prepared for that kind of kick in the pants.

There are no bad choices here. I enjoy the diesel-like torque curve of the EcoBoost, but spin up the 5.0L a little more and it pulls just as hard. Take some test drives and buy whichever you like better.

There is nothing "old" about the 5.0L. The only thing it has in common with older engines is the cylinder count and nothing more.

Lets not forget that the 5.0 was built to withstand boost from inception. Stock 5.0 will handle 700-800 boosted HP very easily. Built 5.0's with aftermarket bottom ends can reach 3500HP. The 5.0 is a great design, with HUGE potential.

I've seen articles about modded Coyote 5.0s in Mustangs making a little over 1000 hp on about 20 lbs of boost.

But I have to ask, which blower nets 3500 hp and at what boost level?

I'm sure you meant 350 HP. No blower or supercharger alone will do that. You will need a completely modified fuel system to include pump, injectors and lines A new throttle body. A heavily modified ignition. A completely remapped computer and I'm sure a few other bits and pieces that I'm forgetting off of the top of my head.

I've never driven a 3.5L, but you are correct on the 5.0L, higher in the rev band and it's bad azz!

The EB motor is designed to run just fine on 87. The power rating advertised are with premium. Most folks run 87 and have plenty of power anyway. I wouldn't both with the 5.0 myself. If I needed more power than the 2.7 I would just right up to the 3.5 no second thoughts.

Can you source that? I've done a LOT of reading about the EB over the last six years and have never seen anything about the advertised horsepower being on anything other than 87 octane.

MMR is making the new Billet blocks. I have no idea what turbos they are using or what boost level. My Friends LSX Camaro is making 2500HP on 42# of boost, so I'd imagine it would be quite a bit more that that to reach the blocks limit. MMR has reached 2,138HP HP 2 years ago with a stock block 5.0 see: 2,138hp 5.0L V8: Meet the World?s Most Powerful Coyote Engine! IT IS A BEAST! - Muscle Cars Zone!

350 HP? That's funny. MMR's new Billet block is capable of handling Thirty Five Hundred HP. One of their old setups was 2,138 HP on a stock block. They used twin 80MM's See link above.....
