HELP!!!!!!!!! 7.3 oil cooler
Just changed the gaskets and the O-rings on the 7.3 oil cooler. Putting coolant back in and now have coolant coming out of the oil cooler next to the oil filter screw. (not outside gasket)
Just pulled the oil pan drain plug and the oil pan was also full of coolant.
Is this a matter of the gaskets not sealing properly? Should I have added a sealant to the gaskets? O-rings not sealing?
What to do about the coolant in the oil now? Do a oil change after a couple of miles?
Please help, this is my daily commuter and need it tmrw.
Thanks

Its a power stroke, I just got it all apart and one of the O-rings got ripped somehow putting it back together. Going to the store shortly for new kit, thank god they had one in stock. Going to try to piece it all together than see if i can install the mounts to the block instead of mounting the front mount and pushing the tube into it.
Should I use a gasket sealer with the gasket? It doesn't look like there was one before?
Since coolant filled the oil pan, any ideas how many miles I should drive before changing the oil out again to remove any residue coolant.
Thanks

When I rebuilt mine I had to put it together on the bench with a press, how are you putting it together in the truck??? New O-Rings are so tight it can't be done by just pushing it together. I've also put one together by standing it on end smacking it with a short 4x4 piece of wood.
Put some petroleum jelly on the O-Rings before you install the end caps.

I used assembly lube to coat the rings, I was able to press the whole unit together but I could not get the complete unit to go inside the truck.
I pulled it back apart, reinstalled the front mount to the block. With the front mount attached to the block I than installed the tube with the rear mount attached in one piece. I used a pry bar against the exhaust manifold to push the rear mount and tube into the front mount. I think this is why the first time I did the o ring got torn. So far on the second kit no water leaks.
As for the coolant filling the oil pan, I trained that and now putting old oil through it and a new filter. I will let it run for a few minutes and do a complete oil change and filter. Than I'll run it for a bit to get the truck to operating temps and do another oil and filter change. I hope this will remove all coolant from the motor.

Well a final update, no coolant leak this time but once I got oil in it and fired it up I had a puddle of oil the size of Texas. It looks to be o rings again.
I'm going to have to have it towed to a shop and have them do it.
As I said earlier this is my daily driver and I need it get to work. Two days and two kits wasted. If only I had more time to get it right.
