BBF and IFS in a 54

The BBF weighs approximately 150 lbs more than the flathead so there is considerably more load on the front suspension. I had a 460 in my 56 with a straight axle suspension and it was constantly bottoming out. Could I have beefed up the suspension to handle the added load...yes, but it would have made the stance of the truck too high and/or ride too stiff. I switched to a Corvette C4 IFS but that too came with it's own set of problems. Best thing to do is to take lots of measurements and have a firm design established ahead of time.

I have a 56 F100 over here in Blighty.
It's fitted with a Ford 460/C6, Mustang 2, tubular arms etc, Ididit column, custom steering shaft custom trans cover, trans mount. It's cosy, but it all does fit well.

I plan to rebuid at least bushings ,pins if springs are not good when I take them out I plan to replace with bb springs. I will see what happens when I mock up,see how much ride height with engine. Should a e been done but I started on the cab first. Lots of rust. Just started to hear that it might be too heavy for original suspension, I have the 223 and 272 both need to be rebuilt but both have syn4 speeds .we will see when I get there.
