newbie checking in with a question

Hey All,

I've just joined the group and wanted to say hey.

I have a '55 F100 cab that I'm using to build a rat rod with and need some advice, in addition to the cab I have the straight front axle that I'm using as well. I'm trying to find the absolute cheapest way to convert it over to Disk brakes on the front, I know they sell kits for this and if it's the cheapest way then that's what I'll do. I know sometimes its cheaper to Piece together the parts but I'd need a list of which parts are needed. can anyone help me with this part of the built?

also, I'm going to need some cab parts at some point, the cab I have came with the driver side window mechanism but the passenger door was empty so I'll need the vent window and door window parts for that if anyone has those laying around and wants to sell them please let me know.

thanks,

I have an F250 so it doesn't help you much but I went down to local parts store and had them pull Ford F250 rotors out so I could test fit them on my hubs untill I found ones that fit.

Then I chose the newest calipers that Ford used with those rotors and made brackets up to hold them.

How are your fab skills? I would assume for an F100 just buying the kit would be cheapest?

Some of the places selling the disc brake conversion kits will sell you individual components instead of the whole kit. Years ago I bought a basic kit from ECI (Engineered Components Inc) that contained the bearing adapter for the hub and the caliper bracket and bolts. It was less than $100.
I had to source the rest of the components; bearings, calipers, rotors, etc. From what I recall, you have a choice of rotors, you can either choose to keep the Ford truck 5 on 5 1/2 bolt patter and use Ford truck rotors from 79-90 or change to the smaller 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern and use GM car rotors. The kit is set up to use GM calipers.

Good luck
Bobby

Ebay sells the speedway basic kit for $95 then you have to buy your calipers and rotors.
