distributor base housing crack or loose while trying to get it off....

I had a thought while in the garage. I wondered if you have tried a strap wrench around the distributor at the base of the cap? It might be easier then trying to hit the base with a chisel to twist it. If it breaks off it might give you more room to get after it with the chisel. I've used my strap wrench on several odd shaped things over the years. Good Luck.

Yep i thought of using something like that the oil filter wrench but ony thought of it till after the top was very weak and pretty much breaking off lol..
The top at the moment is very weak and pretty much turns both ways now.. So at the moment i think the chisel is the ony luck i have with getting it off.
Hope to have a good update and not a bad one in the next few days lol

Heya guys. About the sticking dizzies. My 4.9 l6 was the same way. Dizzy wouldnt turn or move up and down. I was able to wedge a huge screwdriver under the metal casing and pry up one side at a time and eventually it came loose. I know why it was stuck. The flange below the one with the o-ring was frozen to the bottom edge of the dizzy hole in the block by old oil sludge varnish sticky crud. Over the years it just glued itself in there. I wasn't afraid to damage mine so i was going to use explosives if i had too. lol. You might try prying the vacume advance side to side. Your gona have to make it move somehow in order to loosen it so you can pry it up. I had to pry mine up about an inch before it came loose enough.

Wow this sure has been a nightmare for you. Good luck on getting it removed. At this point something like a propane torch seems to be needed. I've had great luck with propane when all my other options have failed. Luckily I haven't started anything on fire either. I even have had the bright idea to "solder" large wires together with my propane torch close to my fuel lines. They had diesel in them though when I did this which resists the heat a little better..
