Im getting ready to build my own custom bed. What is the angel at at the top of the bed where it rolls over. The best I can tell it is 47.5 degrees. If anyone has a degree finder handy and could go set it on there bed I would greatly appreciate it.
Surely someone can go out to there garage and put an angel finder in the bed rail and give me the exact angel. Please fellas....I have to give the info to the guys at the shop so they can bend it up for me.
I would love to help but I am 4750 miles away form home
When I looked into it for my F250 it was going to be cheaper to buy a made bed from Mid FIfty EVEN with shipping are you sure this is not the case for you? Buying all the small pieces adds up quick.
I really enjoy fabricating. I know I can build my own scratch built bed for a lot cheaper. And it gives me the excuse to make a few custom changes to the bed.
I have to laugh. I read the title bed rail 'angel' and thought you were posting about divine intervention for help with your bed rails. Then I figured out you were asking for the angle. Must be all those spelling classes with those catholic school nuns from my past.
I am not saying you can't do it cheaper but I called the steel place here and just to have the steel sheet bent at 45 degrees for two pieces was going to cost more than the new pre made bed sides with all the stake pockets and other holes, and rail....
I have a digital ANGLE gauge and made numerous readings on a bed I have here in the shop...readings range from 48.5 to just shy of 50 degrees.
Your 47.5 measurement should be just fine...no rocket science in this dimension, even where the top flange bolts to the header panel is not critical since the bed side will bend to match the angle on the header panel.
Using the old eyeball and protractor method, I've got just shy of 48° on one side of the bed and a hair over 49° on the other, both dimensions on the tailgate end.
Like CharlieLed said, the angle doesn't need to be exact...especially if you're bending up all your own panels to fit.
