Oil cap had yellow liquid

So I was going to change my oil on a 2002 Lincoln Blackwood 5.4l and before I began I took off my oil cap and saw yellow all over it. Idk what this means I've never seen anything like it. Is this a easy fix or a big problem?

Hmmm, In the winter months it is not uncommon to see some whiteish mayonnaise looking stuff cling to the oil cap. This is caused by repeated short trips that doesn't allow the engine to get completely warmed up. But the yellow color seems a bit more suspect & Now that it is warmer that shouldn't be a issue.

Soo are you loosing any coolant too? Does it look like that on the dipstick? IF it does look like that on the dipstick, I would stop driving it because you probably have a head gasket out. If your coolant looks a bit off too or low you can get a coolant test kit and test it for exhaust gases, This would confirm the bad head gasket. Most auto parts store have this kit.

So everything else seems to be fine, I am not loosing coolant and the oil is still pretty thick, the only thing I don't understand is why the yellowish on the cap turned red after I wiped it down. From left to right it's the oil cap wiped down, the coolant, and the oil dip stick. They all seem pretty normal but I will buy the test kit just incase. When I used to drive it I wouldn't lose any power and it wouldn't make any weird noises.

Ok fluids are staying in their intended locations. that's good!
I'd continue to monitor all fluids and respective levels.

Assuming that you've done all oil changes yourself....Did you have any resent work done to it that you didn't do?

I bought it at a dealership and they said the check engine light was on, I got it scanned and it said it was a 2 sensors for the coolant. I replaced them and the light went away. The oil change was done by a shop near by. The guy checked all the liquids and when I was there and said he would run it around to see how it would act. The only thing it didn't have was oil. I do check it constantly and everything seems ok to me and it doesn't leak. But if anything happens I'll post back on here.

That first pic of the oil filler tube made me think of the fluorescent/UV dye that can be added to oil to find a leak.

I had the same thought, just a guess but I would bet it had an oil leak fixed recently.

For your peace of mind go back to where you purchased it, as well as, where the oil change was done and show them the pictures and inquire what was done. This way you get a little more back ground information of prior maintenance.

How long ago did you purchase it?
