TPMS Failure

What do you do when you take your vehicle to a dealership and they cannot fix the TPMS system. Before one of the sensors was not programmed now its get a very low tire pressure error which is worse in my book. They should make a way to disable the system when they cannot repair it. They wanted to find a part may the receiver that is not made any more. Does any know if a receiver can be removed from a junk car. It also appears only 2003 & 2004 used this receiver. I guess I can find the receiver and disconnect it but when you want to see the vehicle its not very desirable.

It shouldn't be too difficult to repair this. It has 4 transmitters and one receiver. The receiver is integrated in a module, on the '05-'06 this is the Vehicle Security Module (VSM), but I am not sure if the '03-'04 has a VSM or if they still have the GEM like the 1. gens. I can find out if needed. Swapping modules is easy, but they most likely has to be programmed, if you dont have, or have a friend who has, a Ford VCM2, then you need to go to the dealer and ask them to program it.

That being said, my VSM had an issue and gave a "death code" (B1342), and I repaired it by opening it and resoldering a few solder joints on a riser board inside. Depending on your skillset, you may try to open the module and see if you find some weak solderjoints or a similar easily repairable problem.

Thanks for the reply. The system has not been working for a couple of years I think. They want to find a module which they cannot get through normal channels. I have seen them on ebay, but they are not sure its the module. They replaced 1 sensor but I suspect other sensors might be bad. Now it intermittenly giving sensor fault or very low tire pressure. I know one maybe two other sensors have been replace previously. I was just trying to get the car ready for sale but replacing the whole system is crazy expensive at dealership prices. I guess I can order 3 more sensors and have the tire place replace them. I just wish when you give someone $130 to diagnose the problem they could diagnose the problem.

Yeah, don't buy sensors at the dealership, it's a ripoff. Buy them on ebay or Rockauto. They're not so expensive, I got a set of 4 original ones for my '05 for about 70 bucks shipped on Ebay.

gcburkett, if you know what the part number is for the module they said you need I can scan all USA dealer inventory to see if there are any available because sometimes dealers do not do that for whatever reason. I would also seek a second opinion before buying anything since the dealership was unsure about their diagnosis.
