Newbie Needs Water Pump

Hello all, I'm Howard, I'm a new "Fridge" owner, and I need a support group for my new addiction

I have a 58 F100 with 292 and 3 on the tree. I am very surprised at the availability of most of what I have needed so far. The snag I have come to is locating a water pump with 3/4" bearing shaft (at least that's what it measures where the pulley slides over). Many places have the 5/8" shaft but none can get the 3/4. Is this an odd ball thing? Would the 5/8" work if I can find a pulley for it?

Thanks for any support you can offer.

By the way, anyone else located in upstate NY?

The 5/8" shaft is for the car version of the Y-block. It will not work on the truck version, the pulleys will not line up. Don't ask how I know this, LOL.

There are water pump rebuild kits available through the usual suspects.

Here's one for trucks?

Napa consistently has this available, may have to be shipped, but they can get it

Thanks Walston, so where did you find the truck version?

Hey Tedster9, checked out that link, the location was Australia! Dude I'll have to be a little more desperate before ordering that. I do appreciate the support however.

That's where I have gotten everything so far, but all they have available is the 5/8" bearing shaft version. Thanks Marc.

The car one: A1 Cardone Remanufactured Water Pumps 58-235 - Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 at Summit Racing

I think this is the truck version. I suggest calling them. It used to be part AAZ-58-234, but it doesn't show up.

An old post from Number Dummy:

Be aware of what you are buying, most ebay sellers haven't a single clue what parts fit.

For example, cars use a different Y block water pump than the trucks.

1954 truck 239/256 Y block pump (EAT-8501-B) is 1954 only. 1955 239/256 pump (B6T-8501-B) is the same as 1956 272 H/D.

1957/61 272/292 C Series Tilt Cabs use a specific water pump (B7T-8501-A).

B6C-8501-B .. Y Block Water Pump / Obsolete

1956/60 F100/600 272 M/D / 1957/64 F100/700 292 / 1962/64 292 C Series Tilt Cabs.

Yep. Btw, when you discover your crankshaft damper is lunched (nod your head "yes") guess where the ONLY manufacturer for Y block dampers is located?

I don't get it either, for some reason the Y block truck water pumps are hard to source.

I did a quick search for B6C-8501-B and located two possible sources.

Green Sales Company, Cincinnatti, Ohio, 513-294-8385 reports 4 in stock. Green handles a lot of obsolete Ford parts. I have not used them but they are pretty well known.

Collectors Auto Supply, Oroville, Washington, 800-414-4462 reports 1 in stock.

Hope that helps,

I searched and searched on line, I didn't see Green Sales Company though. They may have had it, but too late now. I finally decided to send it to Arthur Gould Rebuilders. They are going to rebuild it for $90. I'll report back on how that all works out. Thanks for the help all.

Sparkplugless, I had the same problem with finding a rebuild pump. Although many places list them as available, when I tried to order, they all came back "no cores available". So, getting yours rebuilt is a good solution.
