Need help fixing my jacked up exhaust system!
Hey guys, I'm a newbie to the forum here and this is my first post. Here's what I got and my problem. Any advice would be appreciated.
1998 F-150 5.4 Triton 4x4 185,000 mi.
Around a couple years ago I was having some problems with my truck and the place that was working on it determined it was a bad coil on plug. They replaced a couple of them and after it still didn't fix it I said heck with paying them to do it and I replaced all my cop's myself. Problem solved. The guy also recommended for me to remove the catalytic converters because he thought they were stopped up. Well i trusted the guy and went ahead and removed the cats. I can't tell that it made any difference to the performance of the truck except for the sound. To me it sounds awful now. It's super loud, rattlely, and poppy sounding. In other words straight redneck lol. I can say that since I'm from Alabama. I used to have a 93 5.0 F150 with straight pipes and glass packs that I always though sounded great. It wasn't annoyingly loud and didn't pop. I don't really mind the truck being a little louder but I hate the sound of my truck the way it is now. It did have a flow master muffler 2 in and 1 out, so the mechanic guy said it was probably rusted out. I can just see ya'll rolling your eyes now. So I went and had a new muffler installed which was some kind of off brand copy of the flow master. It made virtually no difference in the tone of the exhaust.
It has been a little embarassing to drive my truck around every since I made the changes but I haven't had the extra money to try to fix it. Now I do but i'm not sure exactly what to do. I'm sure some of ya'll have been through this hopefully so hit me up with some advice. I would like to get my truck back to a quieter dual exhaust sound. Something lower volume would be great since it's my hunting truck too. Thanks!
