My new muffler makes my truck sound like a race car in park when I rev it. However when I'm driving the sound is hardly noticeable. It's a single in duel out cherry bomb extreme
When youre driving the sound is being produced behind you and you're moving away from it. Therefore, you don't hear all the sound it's making. I'm sure it's still loud when you drive.
Glass pack mufflers take a couple hundred miles to "break in" too, they will get louder. People sometimes used to set fire to the inside of them before install to speed this process along.
Have someone drive by with your truck while you listen outside. My 94 was considerably louder outside than I would've ever thought in the cab driving with a glass pack on the stock exhaust.
It's not really a glass pack. It's the single in duel out with a diagonal wall inside. I've even had some family say it's quieter. Should I maybe cut off the pipes a little after the muffler
If you want loud and offending cut it off and go straight pipes. Getting older I like a nice healthy rumble but not loud. Give it a month and see then.
Yeah the Cherry Bomb Extreme is a single chamber muffler, like a Flowmaster 10 Series.
Cutting the exhaust under the truck and dumping it there will cause 2 things:
1) Drone like a sumbitch. You, and anybody that rides with you, will hate every moment of it.
2) Risk for CO poisoning.

Well I run with the windows down all the time. And I mean all the time. Even when it's raining I roll em down a lil bit cause I have those rain covers above my windows. And drone? What do you mean?

Drone is when the exhaust racket in the cab sort of reverberates, setting up an odd sounding noise. It is worse with certain engine speeds. Flowmaster 10's and 40's are notorious for this. The droning, at first doesn't seem that bad. Then, you notice it's making it hard to hear the radio. Or your passenger. Eventually, you realize you can't stand the droning racket because it grates on your ears. In the extreme, you will begin to think the cab has become part of the exhaust system and your friends don't want to ride with you any longer.
Or at least these were my experiences with Flowmasters and fake Flowmasters being sold as the real deal.
