That only works on the 4X4's. 10 speed will help all. 10 speed with low range will be awesome for steep driveways.

A locker would work just as well as 4x4 on a boat launch or driveway and since its an option, I don't see why you wouldn't get it unless you don't need it ever.

True but you won't feel it like you would in a 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 speed autos and it wont use all 10 gears unless towing/hauling.

The guys over on one of the GM truck forums are continually complaining about the 8 speed trannys. Many wish the older 6 speed was still available. Not many are thrilled with the idea of the GM/Ford 10 speed.

I just think the dumb thing will be upshifting and downshifting continually with the slightest throttle modulation.

You might want to fact check this. I believe Ford says it will not use all 10 gears every time.

They just need to get over it about the joint venture with Ford on the transmission. Both will have their own proprietary parts that are not interchangeable between brands. They only did this to save money rather than outsource to ZF or Aisin.

Besides it's not the first time Ford and GM have done stuff together and it won't be the last time either. Their ZL1 Camaro comes with it at the same time the Raptor is released. If they don't like it they can complain to GM about it but it won't do them any good.

They don't think the joint venture is a bad thing. 10 speeds is the concern because of 8 speed complaints. I sure wouldn't want to own a 10 speed for a while. I have an A8 in my Corvette and although it shifts fine, it shifts too much and when it does, it jumps down so many gears it makes you sound like you're trying to be Joe Racer. I have yet to see the benefits to me.

Thankfully the ecoboost doesn't give us the sound affects or the jerky acceleration. It'll be a great match for the boosted trucks.

Unless you are in Tow/Haul and hit the brakes. Oh, maybe that is de-celeration. But there is a lot of sound.

Turbo lag buffers much of the jerkiness, but a larger displacement N/A would be much jerkier. That snappy feeling is why lots of folks love large V8s. I do too, but that boosted torque curve is quite addictive!

My Corvette is, too. Just a different kind. Supercharger...

These 3.5l Ecoboost engines have such a flat and wide torque curve, I don't see the need. My Corvette sure doesn't need all 8 gears. It would be just as quick and driveable with 6.

The 5.0 might be helped because the peak torque is way up in the rpm range and the extra gears would keep it from bogging....maybe.

I think the 6R80 does a fantastic job. But gearing is like horsepower to me, and I've never met more gears that I didn't like.

But I'd agree with the EcoBoost not needing it as much as the N/A engines. My Transit with the 3.7L V6 does fine with the 6R80, but more gears would help it, particularly while towing.
