I'm looking for brakes on for my 99 Ranger 2.5L and the sites I'm shopping show 4wd and 2wd brakes. Is there really a difference, and a reason I'm looking at paying more because my truck is 2wd? They're power stop brakes if that's important. Thanks.

The brakes came in different diameters & widths, depending on the model. The brakes are not priced according to 2WD or 4WD, per se. For instance, my FX4 is likely to have larger brakes just due to the larger differential it has (same size as the F150).

If you take one look at the pictures of the actual parts you can clearly see the 2wd rotors are entirely different from the 4wd rotors.

4wd rotor:

2wd rotor:

2wd trucks have entirely different front suspensions and brakes, and most parts are not interchangeable.

As a side note, there's an error in the parts catalog, because there's no such thing as a 2.5L Ranger with 4wd. All 1998+ Rangers with the 4 cylinder are 2wd only. Only V6s were available with 4wd.

I just realized you were likely asking about brake pads, not rotors. From what I can tell, 2wds use the same pads as 4wds. Does PowerStop list a different part number for the 4wd pads? I don't see why you couldn't use 4wd pads.

No. You answered my question with your previous post. I'm doing the whole deal with the front brakes.

Thanks for the response
