New truck and super quick reg happened

Picked it last Friday afternoon, it had 10 miles on the odo and the DPF% that I had them install showed 45%. Today I watched the % build up to 95% and at 169 miles it went into it's first regen. The truck ran fine and I drove it till it stopped at 30%, now after 55 more miles it's back up to 55%.........So is this normal for a new truck.

Also I checked the oil and trans. temp, the trans. was showing 199-205 degs. 74 degree day and running solo. Is this normal? Thanks, Dave

Regen seems excessive, but tranny temps are normal. They will be there on a 10 degree day running empty, or on a 100 degree day pulling 15000 lb!

I picked up a new truck on Monday. It had 10 miles in the morning, and I took delivery of it with 75 miles. I had the dealer add the diesel exhaust filter screen. It was about 40% when I took delivery with 4 hours run time and 1 hour idle time. In 2 days the exhaust filter was full and it started a regen just as I pulled into a parking lot. It went down to 80% by the time I shut it down. It should regen again today, if I can fuel it up before the regen happens. I will drive to clean and report back.

Bottom line: I too was surprised that a regen would occur in the first 250 miles of a new truck.

Mine did its first regen with less than 30 miles on it. I read somewhere that it would do an initial regen with low miles. It has averaged a regen every 250-300 miles since in daily driver duties. The regens stretch out if I'm towing.

It is a screen that explained in the owners manual under information displays. However the screen is defaulted to OFF.
I had the dealer enable it before I took ownership.

Here are the steps that the dealer can do:
This is how to get to the ghost Information Screen for "Exhaust filter".

(1) IDS "talking" with truck via VCM
(2) Toolbox selected to get to the Module Programming
(3) Programmable Parameters for our trucks
(4) Select Personality Parameter to program
(5) Change "Forced Regeneration Request" to Enabled.
(6) Programming complete and VCM can be disconnected from truck

Information Screen now appears to show Exhaust Filter % Full

I had a partial regen 2 days ago (ODO reading around 220 miles) that dropped it down to 80%, and today a full regen occurred and it only dropped to 35% before it quit. I extended my drive to see just how low it would get, but it stopped at 35%. Now that I have experienced my first full regen, I will try to ignore it and just drive and see how that goes.

Wow, that's really cool. First I've heard of it. Do you know if that's only available with newer trucks, or would my 2011 have that option, too?

Ok thanks guys, I have about 325 miles on the truck now and it's back up to 85%. We're going on a little trip Sunday to sell the stock tires and wheels to a guy. It should regen pretty soon after leaving and I'll see if it does it on the way back.

it is probably normal since it is so new. It has to figure out the driving conditions and such.

Mine will go all the way to 100% before a regen and then it will go all the way to zero and come out of the regen.

I read somewhere that a new truck will engage a dpf break in/conditioning strategy. It might put itself through a handful of temp cycles, similar to how brake pads are broken in I guess.
