92 F150 w/ E4OD Hard Shifting/Slipping
I have read several of the archived threads regarding the problems related to the E4OD and its Manual Lever Position Sensor. I have had similar problems with hard shifts occuring sometimes. Mine seems to occur after 20 to 30 minutes of driving, never cold. When it does happen, I shift into Neutral then back into OD. It stops hard shifting for a while. If I do not perform this shifting exercise it will usually continue.
Could my problem also be with the Manual Lever Position Sensor?
Thanks,
Gary

I rebuilt my tranny about 4 months ago with a new shift kit and a new converter. It still would sparatically shift hard from 2nd to 3rd. Under steady acceleration, it was fine, but cruising around in traffic at about 30 to 40mph, it was pretty bad. I was willing to live with it if the problem was inside the housing, but I figured out it was the MLPS. I slapped that puppy on, and it drives like a dream now.
part# F 5TZ 7A247
cost about $95 and you will have to change out the plug. No biggie.
You should be getting an error code of 634 if there is a problem with the MLPS.

Hi guys was wandering if anyone has a lazy shifting e4od trans with a wierd grinding felft in the gas pedal. seems to be a delay when it goes into reverse also. Had the filter changed didnt help at all, on 45,000 miles on this I-6 2wd f150. any suggestions would be appreciated greatly. cant afford a new truck, besides I like this one (if it would shift better) I want to install a inline aux. cooler , on the radiator which is the return line to the trans? again thanks!

Don't mean to drag this topic back up, but I just ordered a new mlps and was hoping to install it over the weekend. From those of you who have done this before, what tools do I need for the install/removal? My haynes manual mentions adjusting the mlps with some special tool, is that necessary if I am swapping in a new one? Thanks for the help

I put mine in and I think I needed a 1/2" and/or 9/16" wrench, needle nose pliers and that was about it. It says in the manual that you need a tool for adjusting but I tried to put mine on in the same position and it worked. Later I tried adjusting it and it did not seem to make any difference so I don't know. hope this helps.
