I think that the HEUI system makes a big difference for the talk of extended oil change intervals. I don't think that when we talk about oil change intervals on other systems, it applies to our trucks. On a basic push rod gasoline motor, or a common rail diesel engine, you aren't putting the kind of stress on the molecules that the HPOP does. So you certainly can extend them, but I would do some used oil analysis. In my case, my used oil analysis showed better results using standard 15W40 oil when I extended it out to 9K miles. When I tried it with Schaeffers, I had to change it closer to 7,000 miles. Then my injectors were shot at 155,000 miles soooo.... I am not saying extending my oil changes was totally the cause, but it sure must not have helped. I am not running supplemental filtration and as they say YRMV.
Thank you for the response.

It would be difficult to disagree with your logic without having hard evidence to the contrary.

Which transmissions are you considering? What are you leaning toward?

I agree that the HPOP is tough on oil. I do wonder which is worse though, the HPOP or the injectors that convert up to 3000 psi of oil pressure into 21,000 psi of fuel pressure and then force it though a small hole.

Personally, I would not go beyond 5k miles per oil change without a by-pass filter. The longest I have ever gone with the BPF is around 11,000 using Amsoil marine diesel and the audible results were horribly loud even though a UOA said I was still safe.

The injectors themselves don't increase the oil pressure. It's the fuel that reaches 21,000 psi, not the oil.

Absolutely! My mistake. Lack of specificity. I will edit the post to reflect what it should have said. Thank you!

Thank y'all for the input. So......what is the advantage to going full synthetic if one is still recommended to change at 5K miles like dino ?

One advantage, and the only reason I went synthetic is eliminating the romps. Once I made the switch, it never happened again.

It's an extreme lope which can occur in cold temperature starts. Here's one of many threads on the topic: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-question.html

Here's a wacky idea: Has anybody considered running straight weight oil (either 40w or 50w), when climate/temps allow, such as now? Rotella T1 is a straight weight diesel oil, available in 10w, 20w, 30w, 40w, and 50w. With a straight weight oil, there are no viscosity improver additives to break down, and hence little to no shear/ viscosity break down. Obviously, it will only work when its hot out, but with temps in the 80s and 90s for the summer, it should be ok.
I'm due for an oil change, as I'm approaching 5k miles on my T6 5w40, and the motor has gotten noticeably louder, so this would be a good time to switch, if this is a good idea.
