Bed floor question

Bed floor question
I'm in the process converting to a 51 and up style wood floor in the bed of my 48 F1. I removed all the rusted metal and rotten wood from the original metal covered bed floor and got new bed strips. What has to be done to retain the bed wood where it meets the bed sides? The bed strips hold it down between the boards, but there is nothing to hold the outermost edges where they hit the outside of the bed. Has anyone used angle iron?

I checked & I don't have any pictures of the edges....only the one below showing the strips on the wood. I the bed sides and the front should have a flange on the bottom. It has a few carriage bolts going around the perimeter.
Maybe one of the other guys has a pic of the edges. I'm not at home at the moment or I'd go snap one for you.

That bed is the later type (late 50 and up). My 48 came with a metal over wood bed floor. I'm converting to the later type wood floor with the early type bed. I have one of that type bed, but my fenders won't fit on it.

Hey 76,
We converted our '50 from a dilapidated old metal bed floor to wood.
There are some pics of it in this thread. I would go check my truck in the garage
but my wife got a new puppy & it's asleep - not waking the hellion up tonight. We used
some angle iron trim pieces to cover the edges - we got all of our bed pieces from Midwest Early Ford.
I can take some pics in the morning if you need them.

Hey Roy,
That looks very familiar. They sell a V shaped stainless trim piece that covers
that gap & is attached to your bed sides & at the ends. We got our's from Midwest
Early Ford but I'm sure they all sell it. I'll see if I can get a picture tonight & upload it.
We attached to the sides where you can't see the bolts - in the wheel well, etc..
Looking good over there!

Scott, Mar-k does have angle strips, but I didn't find any specific to my truck. If I have to drill and weld them, I'll just use 1 1/2" X 1/8" angle iron that I have. Yes, I am cheap.

Hey Schoo,
The "angle iron" stainless trim we got from Midwest Early Ford was
1.5 inches wide & 1.5 inches tall. We also used one of their bed wood kits - not sure
of the depth of the boards - not as thick as you would think - I'd say 3/4 in. at the most.
Our bed wood lay out looks exactly like 76-5.0's with the cutout area which is then hidden by the trim piece.
I hope that helps.
