I went through your whole thread and let me say that you CAN do the body work, if you invest in a mig welder. Your project is pretty typical , with rust out in all the common areas. With a little practice, and patience you can conquer a lot of that rust yourself. There a quite a few aftermarket body parts, that will help you along. You can also keep looking for replacement parts, but most will be rusted in the same places.

I agree with the advice to get the sandblasted parts in epoxy paint as soon as you can, "rust never sleeps".

Good luck with your journey with the boys; keep tackling one job at a time, and you'll get there.
Thanks for the encouragement. I have a time constraint that I have to get this project out of the garage before the construction crews show up in June! If I had no time pressure and maybe retired, I'd definitely like to learn to weld on this project. Instead, I hired a sheet metal shop that does restoration and rod projects to bring it back into shape. They will use a spare frame and be working while the boys and I keep plugging on the running gear and all other mechanical. Even with some outsourcing, the timelines will creep up on me.

Well you have your feet to the fire but with body work going on in sync with your mechanical progress, it should be doable.

I'll be keeping an eye on you.

OK, some progress recently. Lots of driving for parts (new cab, wheels, etc.) but on the truck, I have the rebuilt rear end and new spring pins installed. I got the front disc brakes finished, the vendor had sent the wrong bango bolts so had to wait for new ones.

My head went missing. Yep UPS lost a 75 lb package! Luckily they found it and I have everything I need to get the engine installed.

My uncle is coming out to visit and give me & the boys a shot in the arm. He's a good mechanic and worked maintenance in a machine shop for years. Our goal is to get the engine started by 2/13. Cross your fingers!

Great progress John. Not sure how I have missed your Thread this past year I started the rebuild of my Grandpas truck a little over a year ago. I admire you for working in the small area that you are. Sometimes I feel cramped and my shop and it is 30x40. I should be ashamed of myself Like you, my truck is totally torn down right now, getting ready to get the frame blasted and painted. Can't wait to start putting it back together again. That's always a sense of accomplishment. Keep up the good work and I have your thread "locked in" now.

That looks good, but what a bummer about that head!

I can see in that second picture you have the engine mounts; I ordered mine last month from macs and everything came but the upper mount. Got an email back saying they're expected to ship clear until April. There's no way I'm waiting that long so I'm curious as to where you got yours? I can't really make much progress until I can find this mount so I guess you could say I was pretty upset when I received that email.

I bought the front engine mount upper & lower rubber pads from midfifty. They don't carry the right length bolts so I have my old ones in there for now and will get new ones from one of the NOS houses.

These were the ones for my 52 L6:
1952 Ford F-100 Motor Mount Front Lower, 1952 - 8L-6039-B

1952 Ford F-100 Motor Mount Front Upper, 1952 - 8L-6038-B

A big assembly push was cruising along, about to start the rebuilt engine for the first time and then this came along: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ocker-arm.html

On target

Looks like you are on target with your build, even with the setbacks. How are the boys holding up. They must be jacked seeing the body work in progress.

You definitely get points for working in your space constraints but what a story you are building with your family.
