Questions about my trans... UPDATE 5/16!

Mine did the same, TPS was getting stuck. In otherwords, at times I would take off, and get the whine until I hit about 35mph, then shift to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd would do the same until I hit about 55, gears would usually change, if they didn't I would shift to N and most of the time it would downshift. I did get a TPS code. Replaced the TPS and shifts great.
The TPS was getting stuck about 1/2 open.

If the converter is the problem, that will fix it. It could also be the seals on the input shaft. Or something inside the trans. A teardown is the only real way to know. You could try just the converter, you may get lucky.

the slip code, very, very rarely means the converter itself is at fault.99.9% of the time,it's something electrical causing the mechanical device to not function as it should.it's an electrically controlled trans after all.

My 628 code was (probably) due to the electrical connector at the solenoid pack being bad.
I say probably, as I had the transmission out and a new converter ready to go back in before someone else on here suggested I look at the connector. I replaced the connector and put the new reman converter in and it's been perfect since.
BUT, I did not have any of the issues you report. Mine just constantly set 628 on the highway, and then went into limp mode.
I got my reman converter from
Torque Converter Buy 700R4 4L60E E4OD A4LD E4OD AXOD
Torque Converter - total amount (Include s&h)
Part Number (Quoted): F55, Vehicle Information: 1995 fORD f250 7.5L/460 GAS E4OD 4X4 $173
edit: also the perfect time to put a Transgo shift kit in, I did a Tugger kit.

You're in SoCal, home of the ultra car culture & can't find a decent/trustworth shop/tech to help you with an E4OD?
Out of curiosity, you asked any of the Cali chapter FTE brothers for advice? Just a suggestion.
Good luck & all, I really mean that by the way.
