Drive Shaft Question

I need the thread-on nose / collar for my rear drive shaft (75 F-150, 2WD, 390, C-6, std cab, long box) I bought 2 U-joints. The parts store recommended a local shop to press them in. The U-joints were too narrow. They got installed
anyway.....wrong. The thread-on tip of the drive shaft is damaged and out of round. I may get lucky. It may still work. But,...... A different parts store with it's own machine shop has installed the correct U-joints. I have yet asked for a refund from the shop that did the poor work.
QUESTION: What does this tread-on nose / collar interchange with?

Is this a one piece driveshaft? If so, look at the lower picture...what part are you referring to?

WOW! That was fast. I wrote rear.....the longer shaft that slips into the center support.
The PN is 7077 or 4710. Does it interchange with newer trucks?

Are you needing just the threaded cap that screws on the end of the slip yoke?
Ford P/N O1Y-7077 (and yes, that is a Ford p/n)
Lyle's Ford, Eagle Grove, IA has 4 (800) 397-6319
BF White Motor Co, Stanton, TX has 1 (432) 756-3321
And Dennis Carpenter has 1 listed as 01Y-7077 (First digit is entered as a "zero" instead of the correct letter"O") (704) 786-8139

Here again is the first parts catalog pic I posted.

Notice that the upper pic is for a short bed, while the lower pic is for a one piece driveshaft with A/T. It could be either a short or long bed.

Lower pic (new): Example of a two piece driveshaft.

You have to give Mike credit, because looking up the application is not an easy task.

First, the driveshaft has to be looked up to get the code for the yoke.

Then, one has to go to the 4841 slip yoke chart to get the part number (see pic).

#42 yoke C5TZ-4841-F = 360 / #65 yoke C8TZ-4841-A = 390. Notice in the pic that both use the 01Y-7077 cap.

And btw Mike, the first digit is a zero because 01Y decodes to 1940 truck, the first year this cap was used.

But many parts guys typed the first digit as the letter O, because when read, they pronounced it OH.

So, when entered in websites while looking for parts, one has to type the number both ways: 01Y-7077 & O1Y-7077

GOOD NEWS !!! I ordered the part from the Ford dealer in Iowa for $5.00 + UPS.
He had 2 in stock.
THANK YOU.

PS If you can find my Stella in the web sight, she is 4-Sale. 390, C-6, upgraded a.c.
Asking $5,000.

Thanks Bill. I typed the numeric "0" into the parts locator and it came back as an invalid number so I used the alpha "O" and it came up with the info.

I did the same thing...it seems that every dealer that had it...listed it as O1Y

On PV, "Snake" Allen has it listed as O1Y, while Carpenter has it listed as 01Y

But Carpenter made a mistake. EVERY part number that uses an O in the prefix was typed as 0 in websites.

I found a part for a 1964 Fairlane for an FTE member. The prefix was C4OZ .. no one had any, but when I typed it as C40Z .. Carpenter was the only one that had it.

I bought the U-joints at a local parts store. I took them and the drive shaft to a near by auto repair shop that would press in the new parts. I picked up the repaired drive shaft.
The U-joints were at least 1/4" too narrow. I was not called. Neither was the parts store.
I took the drive shaft to a different parts store with it's own machine shop. They installed
the correct U-joints. The first shop refused a refund, threatened to sue me for defamation
and kicked me out. Oh my, what a day. On top of that, they ruined the end ring on
the drive shaft....see above.

My guess is it's safe to say you're never going there again.

The nose ring arrived today. It took 5 days from 100 miles from DesMoines Iowa.
HOWEVER......I assumed it came with the ring of teeth inside. Should that ring of teeth
remove easily from the old nose ring?
Ref. the friendly repair shop; A customer requested an emissions check. She was told that
they no longer do them. The shop called the police. They stated that she was returning
with a gun. Say What??
