complete AC system for 83 F100

1983 F100 4.6 with cam, headers, 4 barrel and C6 - What's the best way to install an AC system?
Stock with parts from LMC or ?
Aftermarket Vintage air?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

This really depends on how you are with tools and patience. To go stock, I would start in the junk yard and get a dash and all of the duct work and vacuum related valves along with a temperature unit that has A/C. Take pictures if you are not familiar with the layout. You will then need to grab the air box and brackets for the belt pulley and compressor. Grab all hoses while you are there. You could try to use the used compressor, condenser, dryer and Evap, but they are probably junk and the compressor may have been for R12 and it will not last if you but 134A in it. Also, you will need to cut a hole in the firewall if you want to draw air from outside for A/C. Otherwise you can skip it and only use "max A/C" and draw from inside the cab. I have done this job, but it is not something I would look forward to do again. The junkyard will give you the best bang for your buck to get started.

The vintage air will be less intrusive, but the air will probably come from under the dash.

Thanks, I had a lot of trouble finding the parts to convert from a 3 on the column to a C6 auto. There doesn't seem to be too many 1983 F100s left. I think I will start calling the different vintage air vendors and go that way.

I agree, go aftermarket if your truck did not come with A/C from the factory. It's a lot of work to convert one using factory parts.

It is even harder when you change out the non-ac firewall for the ac one

First I heard of an R12 compressor not lasting if you use 134a
New dryer with out question and replace the orifice valve. The other parts I would flush out before I used it if not knowing the condition of them.

All my parts came from a truck that rolled on its roof and the system was working then but still thinking of running flush thru the evap as I have to replace the condenser, PO put the water pump thru it when he pulled the motor.
I do need to come up with motor brackets & pullies yet.
