Since then I tried the Focus key in my truck but it will not work. Now the truck key works in the ignition and door/trunk lock on the Focus.

Now my question. Why can't I get a chipped key for the Focus, but have it cut for my F-250? Thus only carrying 1 key for both vehicles.

I went to a local key place but they wanted $80 for a chipped key. I thought that was a little expensive for an experiment. I just found a chipped key blank on Amazon for $10. I think I will order one of those for my experiment.

Just kind of thought it was funny.
Go to Walmart they charge a lot less for chipped key. when we had ours done it was around 30.00 bucks

Walmart's "chipped" keys are clones. Fine if you need a spare, not so fine later on if certain things happen.

Se this recent thread for an extended discussion, no need to repeat it here. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-for-pats.html

We had the one from Walmart for 5yrs now, never been a problem.
nowa days the chips are all made in the same place in China, to pay more is not a smart thing to do, same for the key they are all made in the same factory in China.

Doesn't matter where you buy it or how much you pay you're going to get a key that was made in China.

Just an update.

The cheap Amazon key had a bad chip. I could not get it to program to my car. So I finally broke down and went to a local key place and got another key. Programmed it to the Focus. I have now been using the key in both vehicles for a few months with no issue.

I haven't tried to program my remote to both since my truck door locks quit working. It is nice having one less key to carry.
