California Diesel Regulations

Does anyone know anything about laws regarding pre smog gas powered large trucks being swapped to diesel? From what I understand with the new diesel CARB laws being passed any vehicle over 18,000 GVW that's diesel has to have a 2010 engine but what about our old pre smog gas powered trucks can they be converted legally to a pre 2010 diesel engine?

If they're requiring 2010+ Diesel engines, what makes you think you could convert anything to a pre-2010 diesel engine?

They WILL visually inspect it. Better off to keep the gasser the way it is unless you want to go 2010+ diesel

I was thinking because its before the 1975 exempt year it wouldn't matter but I'm not sure if that applies to commercial size vehicles or only autos and smaller trucks

A pre '75 big truck is going to stand out like a sore thumb. What size truck are you talking about? Medium or heavy? Commercial use?

I would leave the truck gas if I were you. One possible way around it is if the truck is registered as a historical vehicle, but don't let them catch you using it commercially.

My guess is that you have to keep it in original, as close to as-built condition as reasonable. Engine block will probably have to be a match.
