My 78 F 600 has a Clark 285 v transmission (according to the door tag). The ford service manual says that a 280 vo is an overdrive transmission. Will just a few internal parts swap convert my 285 to overdrive or would it be a total change of guts?

It would be the entire gear set. I think all the ratios are different one box to the other. I would simply swap the entire transmission.
