Gas And Tanks Storage

Gas And Tanks Storage
I don't use the '64 F-250 I have much but try to drive it around every couple of months for 30 min to an hour. It has an aux tank. Is it best to leave one tank empty and one full? Both full with stabilizer? I sure don't want bent rods or a tank full of bad gas gumming up my carb.
Thanks.

I've always used 100LL Av gas in anything I have that is going to set around for months without being ran. It will never go bad. It also has 1/2 gram per gallon of lead in it, which these old engines really like. You may get sticker shock when you buy it though. In your area Ryan Field is at $4.70 per gallon and Casa Grande is around $4.10, La Cholla in Oro Valley is at $4.20. The small airports are the best to go to they are more receptive to filling up 5 gallon cans.

John, I think after reading your post that there is no reason to keep the aux tank at all. Or no need to keep it in service should you not want to remove it.
I also would keep a min amount of gas in the truck. If your profile is correct you live in Az. I have never been there, but we have regulars here from your area. I know your climate is very different. I would only leave a couple gal in the main tank. I filled my 2.5gal mower jug and drove my truck dry a couple years ago just to make sure I got some fresh gas in it. You can't go very far in North Carolina without seeing a gas station on most routes. Use the jug method, take fresh gas with you. You can buy some a few days before you drive it. My O.

Thanks for the input. In the long run the truck is going to be my camping/get away truck so the aux tank is a plus. I really just want to prevent rust in the tanks. I hadn't thought about av gas although I did think about pouring in a gallon of white gas (coleman fuel) into the empty tank.

As a boater all my life, for years since ethanol came on the scene, the practice of filling your tanks and adding a stabilizer for ethanol at the end of the season WAS the norm. In the last yr or two, the recommendation has been to leave the tank(s) empty. This I do now by pumping the tank empty. Transferring by electric fuel pump, the gas into my 66 F-250.
In the case of your Aux tank, I would run it dry. To which there will still be a bit of gas in the tank. I would add some StarTron Enzyme fuel stabilizer and MMO to a quart of gas, put it in the tank and leave it or take the truck for a ride on the main tank to slosh around the what's in the Aux.
