Loud jet kinda sound
I have a 2004 Ford f-250 super duty 6.0 turbo diesel. I noticed yesterday that it was making a jet sound when i pressed the pedal and got louder as i increased the speed. When you let go of the pedal it goes away. I have asked around and some say it could be the turbo...the diesel mechanic THINKS it could be the fan clutch. The truck doesn't overheat and if i punch it i don't think i sense any loss of performance. All i know is that it makes this sound like a plane taking off. Help!

Sounds like the engine fan is running at high speed. It's VERY loud. It's a medium-pitched sound. The turbo is a much higher pitched whistle sound.
Engine fan on would be on for a couple of reasons:
1. Your engine temp is above 218F.
2. The fan clutch has failed and is stuck on full or has some wiring problems.
Does it make this sound when the engine is cold or only after it's come up to operating temperature?
I'd recommend getting a ScanGuage (or borrow a buddies) to see your actual Engine Coolant Temp (ECT). If it's over 218 you've got cooling problems and the fan is working as intended. If running below 218 (normal cruising temp is 190-195) you've got fan clutch or wiring problems.
My gut says you've probably got a wiring issue. Check the connector and make sure it's tight and the wiring isn't being chewed up in the fan. It's on the driver-side, on the radiator shroud.
BTW, The stock temp gauge is useless. I've seen temperatures upwards of 230F pulling a long grade and it still hadn't moved from center!
Also, you'll get better responses in the 6.0 diesel specific forum.

Noise
Hey guys i posted about a loud noise that sounds like a jet plane sound. Like if it was taking off. Well i noticed the reservoir tank was busted and was leaking. I took it in and the mechanic replacedthe tank and did some test...combustion test, air leak test, and test drive it many times. It didn't over heat and the test he did on the truck passed. I got it back and of course the noise is still there and the temp needle started to go up but still in the normal range. I dont think its the turbo because there is no difference in the performance. Mechanic says it could be the fan clutch, maybe thermostat, or even water pump. Who knows....wouldnit be safe to lean towards the fan clutch?
