I've always maintained that if your pickup doesn't look overloaded and you drive safely, the weight enforcement crew won't bother you.

I was just going through the towing charts. The 2015 charts do not show the reduced weight. It is only on the 2016 chart and also only for the trucks equipped with the 5.0. The Ecoboost engines do not show a reduction with the sport package. This makes no sense to me as the sport package is only seats, decal, running boards and wheels for the most part. Depends on model and packages selected. Either way this has me baffled and I am wondering if it is not some type of mistake.

I may sound like an idiot however how would you figure out your axle rating. I know it's listed however with your load

Your front and rear axle ratings are on a sticker located on the driver's door jamb. The gross combined weight for towing comes from the Ford charts. Problem is right now one of the 2016 charts show a reduced gcwr on trucks equipped with the 5.0 and sport pkg. It is only the one chart that shows this, all the others do not show the reduced weight.

IMO, the tow ratings are somewhat of a marketing game.

That used to be true. Starting for the '15 model year all tow ratings were certified using the J2807 standard.

2015 Ford F-150 To Adopt SAE J2807 Towing Standard | GM Authority

Not all marketing anymore, it's now based on an industry standard.

The manager looked into the truck I am buying next week (150 Scab 5.0 sport) and it is rated for 14,400 (9,000 towing) not the reduced amount shown on that one chart.
