Wiring Fault

Recently bought my 2008 F350 Super Duty. Hooked my fifth wheel up to bring home to get ready for a trip.

The fifth wheel 7way connector indicates a "wiring fault". Everything except brakes work. I get no brake indication on my dash.

If I plug it into the trailer connector, everything works correctly. I did a continuity check on each pin between the 5th wheel connector and trailer connector and everything checked out.

I'm I just looking at replacing the 5th wheel connector?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am not sure I am following so I need to get on the same page.

How did your 7-way indicate a fault i.e. where is the indicator? Do you mean at the dash?
When you plug the trailer into the seven pin on the truck everything works? You have brakes, just no indication at the dash?
You checked continuity between the seven pin cord plug and the junction box connections?

Not playing dumb, I really don't understand your post.

Me thinks Chuck has the correct assumption. He should INSURE that he also has the correct VOLTAGE at the 5th wheel connector.

I will await the OP's clarification as to what he meant.

I have an in dash brake indicated that showed no braking. I had everything but brakes. I checked continuity between the both seven pin plugs. (5th wheel inside bed and trailer next to trailer hitch).

I did locate the problem. I took the bed connector apart and found 1 small wayward strand of wire was shorting out from the brake connection and the ground. Once I removed that, everything was normal.

Thanks for your help...

The reason I initially asked is a "fault" code normally is interpreted as a short somewhere in the wiring. As you noted, you found the short. Folks often tend to immediately think of an "open", which gives a "no trailer" code. Thanks for checking back.
