Howdy All,

I just picked up a new (to me) 2012 SCAB with the 3.5EB. I've seen a few posts here and there suggesting to add an Oil Catch Can to the PVC system to help prevent the valves from getting the heavy carbon deposits.

How many of you are using this device?

Your thoughts?

To date and to my surprise what I am getting in the Catch Can is 95% water and only a very small percentage of oil.

I was expecting the ratio to be very different.

Which set up did you use? I'm a little confused, I see dual and single valve options

I did a single on the boost side (passenger).

CC for 2.7EB

I too read a lot about a Catch Can, I have a 2015 2.7Eb
I fork out $400 on a Dual CC , but mine does not catch as much as some of
the others have posted. I've put 1200miles then check both sides of my CC
but only found about 1 tsp of what looked like watered oil.

I guess it doesn't hurt. & yes, I do believe in WOT when ever I can.

A few months later and I'm still getting a 97% water / 3% oil solution when I drain. May have something to do with my driving style - ? I'm not a lead-foot driver.

I wouldn't be disappointed with those results. You're still keeping crap out of the engine. I've yet to find a video on YouTube talking about catch cans from someone that doesn't have a tuned up truck. I'd expect someone that's tuned up their truck to drive it harder, which could explain how they get such ugly drains.

I came down to this sub-forum just to continue researching catch cans. There were reports of them kicking of a CEL on the '16s, but now some places are saying they've fixed that problem.

Changed my oil today and decided to pull off the shroud and see what one of those return lines looked like. The Q-tip was run around each end of the hose, the oil on my finger was off one of the attach points.

My truck has 7,200 miles on it. I guess this is what you'd expect to see if the system is working, ut I don't know if this is a lot, average or a little.

Oil found in right side return hose.

I still don't think Ford has an approved intake valve cleaning process. Wonder why. I can imagine what some of the higher mileage engines are starting to look like....eeeek!

As far as I know the current TSB for dirty intake valves on an EB is still "replace the heads".

Best 2 things to do are Oil Catch Can and full synthetic oil.

FordTechMakoLoco just did a great video on a catch can system. If you don't follow him on Youtube, he's done a number of videos on this issue. In the most recent video, he confirmed that Ford still does not have an approved cleaning process and replacing parts is the only solution.

The systems are expensive, but I think this my Christmas gift to myself...

I would counter and sat that the Catch Can system are not deemed as "expensive".

Granted, FORD needs to address he issue of the Direct Injection EB engine. Remember, in the engineering world everything is a tradeoff. With the EB we get mileage and POWER. But, with the current design we also get the tendency of the DI engine to have the intake valves get deposits due to the fuel never touching them.

I have a 2012 EB myself, with the Catch Can, and I use full synthetic oil. I will most likely have no issues for a very long time.

From and engineering standpoint, I still want to hear from FORD to see how they respond to this engineering dilemma.

I asked around some of the mechanics that service my Fords and was told the only benefits of the catch cans are for engines running chips, tuners, performance mods etc. It reminds me of back in the 70's when my brother had the top end off his 70 Boss Mustang so he could change the cam. Our dad told him to continue if "he knew more than the engineers at Ford"......He put the engine back the way it was. Today he is glad he did.$$$

Dual Catch Cans

OK,
a while back, I posted that I was not collecting a lot of oil/gas in my catch can.

I drive MY TRUCK once or twice a week. Only when I really need to haul or pick up items for home.

The other day I took my F150 on a road trip to Las Vegas.

Roughly 230miles each way from where I live. Before Leaving I checked the tire pressure on all four tires, inspect the dual catch cans, empty them and clean them with a paper rag. Took the drive averaging 75-80mph all the way there.
Again, going up the hills or being able to pass others if need be,
those little turbos do their job very well.

In all total miles driven when I got back home was 554miles.
The next day I checked both catch cans, BOTH half way full.
80%gas, 20%oil.

Now I feel good about investing the $400 in getting the DUAL setup.: -X22
