80% gas, 20% oil seems odd. Oil and gas are soluble in each other. With the heat and vibration I'd expect them to be well integrated. How did they present? Oil floating on top?

I agree...you sure it's not water and oil? That would keep separate.

But thanks for posting with what you noticed. It's nice to hear real-world results. Please post if you have any performance mods on the truck and what octane level you run just that's here as well.

Dual Catch can

Mostly Liquid on top, oil at the bottom, And a very very strong smell of GAS/oil mix.

Only Mods are SCT 91 Tow tune & 91 Performance tune.

Driving it around town, it won't collect much. But on a round trip of 500+ semi hard miles surprised me when I checked both CC.

But so far, my 2.7 has been trouble free, and performs very well for a truck.
avg 18 city, 23.5 HWy @ 70mph, holding 3 .lbs of boost.
Climbing hills at 70-80mph, boost holds @ 11. lbs
Max boost with the tune

18psi Max Towing Tune
21psi Max on the Perf. Tune both using 91Oct.

Well if it is liquid on oil it isn't water. If you have that much un-combusted gasoline passing through into your crank case something is seriously amiss.

Bummer, I was hoping you were not running a tune. I think you need to find an excuse to make a second run to Vegas, but change back to the stock tune first. I bet your tune has a lot to do with the crap your catching.

BTW - I'd be really worried about fuel dilution in your oil.

I think Onug is right, you should do an oil change before you pull out.

Thumbs up New catch can

Hi, just to let you know, I own a 2015 Ford-F150 v6 3.5 EB, I put my oil catch can and installed it, vary easy, only one problem, the hoses are different sizes to the catch can, you will have to make up reducers for the hoses on the can, but all in all works great and my mileage in increasing, before i was at 15.3 mpg now its at 16.8 and increasing. hope this helps.

Thumbs up PCV-Intake cleaning and Oil Catch Can Installed

Before I Installed the oil catch can, I cleaned the PCV-P/S Intake, with valve cleaner, I used the full bottle of cleaner, run the engine 1500 rpm for about 45secounds, reconnect the PCV and what a difference, after the cleaning I installed the catch can, and o my god, works great, before MPG 15.3 now 16.8 and rising, next month I will clean the PCV-Intake one more time, and then no more. just to let people know it do work.

You ever make another run without tune and test the catch can?

2015 Ford F-150 3.5L and a oil catch-can

Since I installed the oil catch can, great improvements, the truck is running great and the mileage has increased to 15.8mpg city, before it was 14.3 city,
there was a time it went to 16mpg and above, but now it is at 15.8mpg city,
we will be going on a vacation in July, 4000 miles one way, that will be the big test, and i have checked the p/s pcv hose and it is DRY!! the truck only has 12000 miles on it, so i don't think i will see anything in the can yet, but it is working.

Catch Can Update:

Here is what i found.
I ran my truck on a couple of trips. The first one was a total of 746 mile with out
a TUNE
. I unscrewed the driver side CC and found only a 1/4 of liquid gunk.
on the passenger side, a couple of drops of gunk.

Later I uploaded the 91 Performance TUNE, headed on the same trip, but only manage 615mile. I first unscrewed the drivers side to fine a little more than half way full of gunk. Passenger side only 1/2.

Running a Tune, IN MY CASE collects a lot more from the CC.

Reps sent. It's great to see someone doing good side-by-side test. Your results seem to align well with YouTube'rs talking the benefits of a CC (at least from what I've seen). Specifically, tunes are a significant contributor to the gunk found in each canister. Not saying CC's don't provide benefit for stock motors, but I've yet to see anyone finding "OMG" levels of gunk in a can from a stock motor.

Ironically, I can feel the itch developing to get a can still...you know, to provide the stock tune report...

In a generation of Ecoboost to come, Ford is to reportedly use cooled ,high-low pressure dual loop EGR usually associated with diesel engines on the Ecoboost.

With that, incorporation of an OEM trap and drain system for condensation problems will likely be used. Higher dillution rates will require much higher spark energy than current systems have.

When ? I don't know but 2015 is behind us now Here's a little blurb on it but it has more to do with octane, BMEP and such.

It looks like the 2018 2.7 EB is getting the high-pressure type cooled EGR system.

For those interested here's a brief on how it works with a gas motor , although not all inclusive.

Cooled EGR shows benefits for gasoline engines - SAE International

It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
