31 inch tires

Hey guys I was just wondering if my 91 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat will take 31 inch tires without a lift. The ones on it are 27 or 28 right now so the difference would only be like an inch and a half.

Brother's 91 F150 has 31s on 15x8s clearing with no problem along with my 88 F150 has 15x7s with 31s and my 83 Bronco on 15x8s. All are stock height.

However these aren't stock wheels so not sure if it will rub or not with stock wheels.

31s fit on all the stock wheels without any issue.

I've got 31x10.50x15 on my truck it's an 89 f150 2wd reg can long bed. There stock wheels from an 83 bronco. The back tires have plenty of room. I've even run 33x12.50 on the back before. But the front it only rubs if you turn the wheel all the way left or right. Just barely though on the radius arm and if you go over the big speed bumps at 25 my left front rubs the top of the fender well barely. But my coil springs have never been changed so that could be why.

With stock wheels the 31s will only rub on the radius arm slightly at full turn.

I had a similar issue with wider aftermarket wheels on stock height 2wd hitting the inner fender.

They fit fine without rubbing. One of the stock sizes that was available over the years was the metric equivalent of a 31.

Wheel backspacing is an important spec to minimize tire contact with oversized tires, I had a set of aftermarket 8" steel wheels with 3.5" backspacing that did not rub anywhere with 31" or 265/75 tires while the same tire rubbed on stock 8" wheels which had 4" backspacing.
