First no I have not.

Being it is a "E"4od you would need a brain to control the trany no?
Now I thought I saw something about flex plates & converters - converter cant be too far in or out of the front pump or can hurt the trany and the flex plates that are with other motors do not have the right off set but could be wrong?

I am not up the Fords bell housing patterns do they make a E4od to fit your motor? Then you have the flex plate.

You did not say of this is a 4x2 or a 4x4?
4x2 drive shaft should not be an issue but bolting the trany to a transfer case could be.

I would think you could get the stock linkage to work as I don't thing the E4or has any more shifter settings that a non OD trany.
If you cant use the stock linkage maybe an after market cable shifter?

Just some of the things I would think about if going to do this swap.

E4OD / 351W was a common combo in the mid '90s, so it shouldn't be hard to find a small block E4OD and the right flex plate.

Not sure about linkage, but I'd start with the '90s truck linkages and see if that would work.

Yes it will need a controller. I've heard that there are aftermarket stand-alone controllers available though, so you wouldn't need to convert an older 351W to EFI to use the factory ECM that would control both the engine and the trans (although that would be another way to go too).

Pretty much sums it up. I think E4OD was available in 1990 and the linkage changed to a cable system with an entirely different steering column in 92, so your best bet would be 90/91 for a linkage. Later model transmissions had better internals, but there was a change in the solenoid packs. Something about internal or external protection diodes. Mark Kovalsky is the expert.
