Every winter my aluminum rims get stained and discolored. I tried different aluminum polishes, but it doesn't get the stains out. There is some sort of an oxidized brown coating on the rims. Ammonia seems to do just as good as aluminum polish.

Has anybody found a way to shine up aluminum rims without using abrasives?

Aluminum oxidizes if not sealed after polishing (or cleaning regardless of what you use) Look up something called Zoop's Seal. Not cheap.
