Recently bought a '89 F-150, 2 wheel drive, 5.0, automatic. Overheated on the way home, coolant was mud. Replaced radiator, hoses, thermostat, and water pump. Flushed engine with water. I changed the oil as the dipstick showed it had too much oil. After new filter and draining both plugs, I put in 6 quarts in. The dipstick still says it is has too much oil.

The truck runs fine. Two problems. When I am stopped or driving under about 30 mph the red engine light comes on. The coolant and oil are good. The other problem is there is the smell of "cooked" oil after some driving. I have seen a little smoke coming up between the back of the engine and the firewall. I have replaced the PVC valve. There has not been any leaking of coolant.

Any ideas? Is there some way that the engine did not drain all the oil and it is overfilled?

I don't know if it is related to the red engine light, but the oil sensor was disconnected when I bought the truck. I reconnected it when installing the water pump, but the oil pressure gauge is not working properly. I am thinking it might need a new sensor.

Not sure what the intake gasket title had to do with your description. Ground out the wire at the sensor, turn the key on and see if the gauge moves. Six quarts is correct for an oil and filter change. Mine also shows overfilled so I think Ford may have been using the car dipstick on trucks.
