Tuning a Brand new 6.2 Super Duty

Picked up a brand new black 2016 XLT F 250 4X4 CC SB 6.2 today. Has 32 miles on it.

My previous truck was a F150 2.7 that I put a 5star 91 tune on. Completely transformed the truck.

I still have the SCT tuner and can get a 6.2 tune for not much money. Would probably get an 87 and 91 tow tune. Are these worth it on the 6.2? I realize the tunes dont do nearly as much on aspirated engines, but 5 star is claiming approx 20 HP and a lot better throttle response. Thoughts?

You're spot on with your assessment. I waited till 1000 miles or so before I tuned mine. I am still experimenting with my tunes, 87dt, 91dt, 87P. They all wake the truck up considerably. I am seeming to find that my truck is very happy with the 87dt.
With such poor fuel mileage, I couldn't justify spending anywhere from .30-.50 more a gallon for 92. I did try it for 3 straight tanks hoping for any bump in mpg to justify the high octane fuel. Now that summer fuel is here, maybe I will try it again.
I do wish I had the 91P tune to try but I didn't get that one yet.

I would wait until about 5K miles on a new truck - many have noted improved throttle response after a break in period.

I just bought one too in June. Have about 2k miles on it now. I'm waiting until after I do the first oil change or two, and run oil analysis on them.

I'm planning on doing the first oil change with regular 5-30W oil, and then switching over to full synthetic (Mobil 1), then slapping a tuner on it at probably 10k miles.

The transmission shift points suck. Waiting to see how everything is after break-in.

Any updates? Did you like the 2.7?

My F-250 6.2 seems to have a tall 3rd gear. When it shifts from 2nd to third its takes forever during the shift. Anyone else seeing this? I agree the shift points suck

I have a Superchips flashpaq that I bought about 4 yrs ago for our F150 5.4. I updated it for the 6.2. But I honestly dont know much about tuners and never installed it on the 6.2 as I was waiting for the waranty to expire which it will do next year. Is this tuner any good at all? Everyone seems to use 5star but I already have this one here, is there that much of a difference that it would make it worthwhile getting a 5 star tune & can I use the flashpaq to install a 5star tune or do they have to have their own unit?

5 star uses the sct tuners mine is an sct x4. I have the daily tow tune on it for the past year. I'm not thrilled with the shift points. Locks out 6th gear until just over 50mph most of my roads here are 45. Got better fuel economy with the stock tune but defiantly made the truck responsive.

Do these Scot tuners change the tune at the push of a button or do I have too down load a tune to switch tunes ? The second sounds like a pain to keep downloading one of the 3 tunes or so, my warranty is up and I'd like to get one but if I can't turn a **** or push a button to change tunes I'd most likely never change it , like this past week I would of changed a tune 3 or 4 times switching between a performance and tow tune.

You have to load each tune. It's not at the push of a button. Takes a couple of minutes to switch tunes. I just stick the daily/tow that works for me. I'm not sure if there is an option to change tunes at the touch of a button.
