New 2016 F-250 Owner!!!

Purchased a new 2016 XLT 6.2 F-250 4X4 CC SB today. I upgraded from a 2.7 F150 as towing my 30' trailer at 7000 pounds was turning into a white knuckle adventure.

Don't tow any more weight than this so I couldn't justify the cost of the diesel. I think this should do my just fine. Excited to break her in!!! Was out the door after rebates/incentives at 41k. Dealer also threw in spray in bed liner.

Attached is a pic of the sticker and the truck.

Congratulations, nothing like that new truck smell and the F250 with the 6.2 pulls up to the rated (and over) load just fine.

It's hard to beat that 6.7L diesel, but the 6.2L gas engine is a great choice when you don't need the extra torque, and it's very simple and inexpensive to maintain comparatively.

Just towed my 7k 30'er last weekend. The 6.2 pulled it like a dream and the 250 was sure footed thru the curves. I initially was looking at a 2.7 f150, but feared the camper would be to much. Sounds like I made the right choice, sure is a big turn around on fuel mileage though. The 250 was much cheaper than a comparably equipped 3.5 f150.

Nice truck, I have the 6.2L gasser as well. It does a good job pulling. The F250 is a stable platform that seems to handle tongue load pretty well, I'm sure you'll like it. The 6.2 likes running at slightly higher RPMS than the EB did. It takes all of 3 minutes to get used to that.
You'll have to update us after your first tow, now that I only tow my car and boat the 2.7L F150 seems appealing.

Thanks for the responses guys. I did a 91 tow tune on the 2.7 and it had toooonnnns of power and could pull the 7k trailer at 70...the problem was once that 30' trailer starting whipping, it was down right scary, felt like it was going to take you off the road. Also, that light truck flat struggled to stop - even with trailer brakes cranked up.

The initial up front cost plus the cost of ownership/maintence with the deisel was just too much. At the most I may ever be towing 8-9k. This should work just fine. I am going camping in 3 weeks. I am going to try to get the initial 1000 mile break in done then hook her up and see how she does - i expect it to be effortless.

Has anyone out there tuned one of these engines? I realize that with no turbos, the tunes dont do nearly as much, but a good 91 octane tow tune from 5 star will get you around 20 extra HP and a lot better throttle response - thoughts? Worth it?

Check out the 6.2 forum. There is lots more info there. I am 5star tuned and wouldn't have it any other way. Congrats on the new ride. I like the shadow black.

Just make sure it's not 1k miles of constant speed highway cruising. You want the teeth of the gears to mash together more and then less and so forth, so a lot of city style driving at different speeds, taking off from a dead stop, passing people, slowing, etc.

ahiaring,

I'm also very interested in your towing experience with the 6.2. I'm currently towing 8000 lbs with an F250 with the 6.4L diesel, and am on the edge on whether, when it comes time, I would replace it with a 6.2L gas or the 6.7L. The diesel is unmatched with respect to power and engine braking, with the tradeoff of higher acquisition and maintenance expenses.

Nice looking truck!

Congrats! You will not regret it! I tunned mine with mikes 5 star with the SCT x-4 tunner. I went with the 87 daily tow/econmy tune. Really wakes up the truck. More fun to drive. You will not see much improvements on fuel but it does wake up the truck. The most iv'e towed was 9200lbs and the power is great out of the 6.2. Good luck!

It'll pull just fine for you, but don't expect stellar MPG. Just returned home from a trip to Florida. Pulling a 7x18 enclosed with 4 Harleys in it. According to the truck's computer, 8.8 on the way down and 7.7 on the way home. Bear in mind that a lot of this trip was 75+ MPH.
I also have an SCT with 87 octane daily tow and 87 octane economy that was being used. This is not a complaint, just a report of a personal experience so that you might know what to expect. It's a 3/4 ton truck. I don't expect Prius mileage with it.

I really don't expect much from mileage so thats low on my list. The additional fuel when towing still will be cheaper than the diesel costs. Ill be happy at 13-14MPG every day driving.

I realistically will tow my camper 6-8 times a year...I can handle the poor mileage at that amount.

Any special maintenece/upkeep that people are doing on these trucks to push them out to the 200k mark? Synthetic oil worth it?

On a side note I chose this truck over the same in silver because it had the cheap continental tires and this had the 10 ply michelins....Why in the heck does ford even offer those cheap tires? lol
