Question Known issues for 07' sport trac V8?

Looking at a 2007 Sport Trac V8. Any concerns i should know before jumping into it? Has 147K miles and supposedly in near mint condition but you never know 1 week after buying it Ive read about common transmission problems, but at 147K im thinking its probably has been addressed already... Any other tips or suggestions? Thanks!

Check the rear springs for a broken upper coil. I have replaced many. Also front and rear wheel bearings are common as well as from upper BJ's. Otherwise they are pretty good. Basically an Explorer with a bed.

Sounds good, i think im going to pull the trigger on it. Do the 4.6L suffer the same spark plug problems as the 5.4L engines breaking off?

Yes, the 4.6 3V had the 2-piece spark plugs like the 5.4 thru 2008 (engines built thru 11/30/07)

So I went for it and bought it this weekend... Wow it came with service records from the dealer about 2 inches thick. Seller (retired real estate agent) was an older person and could not remember all the services done. I asked about the spark plugs and he said he thinks they werent replaced yet, i was bummed out about that as i am NOT looking forward to doing that job, but when i got home i went through the stacks of paper and found that the spark plugs were replaced at 122K miles, so its only 25K miles old

So now brings up couple new questions...it is a Limited V8 6-speed trans, but i only see 1-2-3-D plus the OD switch, that only adds up to 5 speeds? The manual states that D with OD-OFF would be 1-4, and D with OD-ON would be 1-6. Now what if i wanted to limit the upshifts to 5th gear? Im thinking put it in 3 with OD-ON?

I've been frequenting this page quite a bit, especially when a family member or friend is looking for a different vehicle. 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Problems, Defects & Complaints

Its not going to be everything but it'll give you an idea what to look out for.

Frdtrkrul - Yes that is the site i found when i mentioned about the common transmission problems.

Still curious about limiting the upshift to 5th gear.. And whats up with this class 2 hitch? i just read about how it is quite difficult to change out to a class 3. Ive seen some V6 models that got the class 3, the V8 should have come standard with the class 3. What was was Ford thinking on this? Ugghhh....
