460 Crank snouts

Can someone explain to me the variations regarding 460 crank "snouts" ?

While I've built up a 460 and a 429 a few years back, I always used the stock cranks, and rods. So this was never an issue for me.

This is my first 460 stroker.. I've got a crank from Lunati, but all they can tell me is that the length of the "snout" is 5 inches.

I've seen on the internet (I forgot where) something about certain 429/460 cranks having a "short snout"... Also what's the deal with a BBC "snout" what's that all
about.

Thanks
