Replacing a short bed with an 8ft bed?

Hi all, I'm about to buy my first Super Duty, and I'm very excited! I found one that seems perfect, except that it has a short bed. Does anyone know if you can easily replace a 6'6 bed with an 8'? I just pulled the bed off of my tacoma and it wasn't that hard. I'm finding plenty of 8 foot beds on craigslist and ebay. If it's possible, it would be preferable to buy the truck I've found and switch out the beds.

It's a 2008 6.4 Turbo Diesel, Crew Cab, 2wd, red, with 149k miles, for $8,900.

I would think you'd either need to cut the frame and extend it or weld one the rear section from a parts donor w/ an 8ft bed.

A diesel for that price sounds like it is going to be problems.... I'd probably hold out for a long bed truck.

I thought I heard a little voice in my head saying 150k mile throw away motor... but I am no expert on diesel. I do know I'd have a 7.3L and then a 6.0L, but that's about it.

No
The spacing between the front of a 6'3/4 and the wheel well and the front of a 8 and the wheel well is different. you would have to cut and extend the frame to get the wheels in the wells.

Typically you take a long bed and cut it down to a shortbed.

I would just hold off and get the long bed truck that you want. However after having a long bed myself for a long time I would take a short bed over it now....LOL

I had a short bed and upgraded to a long bed. Now I can't get rid of my long bed. I love it too much.

There are shops that do long bed conversions on Ram Mega Cabs because they only come in a short bed. Here are articles on how its done on the Dodges.

All my trucks have been short beds and I like them that way. I have a trailer and I found they are much better all around for hauling than the bed of the truck.(especially heavy stuff)
