Tire Sizes

Hey Guys (and girls). I know this has been discussed somewhere in here, but I am still new at this forum stuff and how to search for it...

So, how big of a tire can I put on my new 2016 F-250 XLT FX4 Power Stroke, crew cab, short bed with snow plow package (which is nothing but different springs..)? Stock (for now); has 18" rims.

Which also leads me to another question... how small of a wheel can put on? I like tire and air not these damn 20" or larger rims. I'm not a gangster. And less rubber makes rougher ride.

Thanks,
Jason

Superdutys can come with 17" rims and the biggest tire without rubbing is a 285/75

The absolute max will vary a little by truck, driving style (including off-roading), operating loads, etc. Generally on the 18" wheels you can easily go to a 295 width without issue, which generally means a width of a hair under 12" when inflated. How tall you go from there depends on what you like and what's available. 305 width might rub, and 315 probably will rub at full lock. For standard tire measurements, anything 12.5" wide probably will rub. Beyond that, it also depends on if you want to do a little trimming.

The easy answer is you can run 35" tires on stock wheels with no issue stock as long as they're not too wide. You can even run 37" tires, potentially requiring a little trimming, but it's going to be hard to not be too wide on stock wheels (and without adding spacers or some other nastiness).

I have the Toyo AT2 in LT295/70R18, and I love them. No rub, and the speedo is dead on (same revs/mile as the larger factory tires on 20" wheels). About 34.5" in diameter, aggressive sidewall, and they really look great on the truck, don't give up any towing or hauling capability, and they work well off road.

So look for something along those lines, and you'll be golden.

PS As far as I know a 17" wheel is going to be as small as you can run. You've got to clear brakes and such. Definitely the smallest factory option.

Thanks guys! Money is always an issue, so I'll probably stick with the stock rims for now and go for something close to 305/70/18. Or 35x12.50...

How hard is it to get the computer fixed to update tire size so the speedo and all is correct?

12.50 means 12.5" wide. They will rub. 305 widths might rub.

Unless they changed it, you can only choose between the smaller factory tire size or the larger factory tire size. You can't program in any other size (or revs/mile). It's not hard for them to do. Just have to drop by the dealer and have them do it for you. Probably will do it for free, even. Definitely if you buy the tires from them obviously.

OK, true about the size. I like the looks of a little bit wider tire. Maybe I'll look at wheel off-sets... I'll put some pics on here one day.

Please consider not using spacers. If your truck is a grocery getter, not used for towing or hauling heavy, fine, but spacers do not in any way enhance capabilities. At best they don't hurt too much, in the case of good hub-centric spacers.

You've got great wheels on a great truck already. Consider running good looking 295 of maybe 305 width tires. They look great. Check out this thread for a good example: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...hing-else.html

I too like more tire and less wheel. I went with "0" offset 17x8's and currently run 285/70/17. My next tires will be 295/70/17 and they will fit just right IMO.
