2008 6.4L powerstroke

Looking for a new truck and considering a 2008 f350 6.4L powerstroke with 120,000 miles and was wondering what peoples opinions are to rather I should make the purchase or not and what problems I might run into if I do decide to buy it

Look over the threads in this forum, if properly maintained over the years they can be goood trucks, but when they break there expensive to fix.

I love my truck and am not afraid of a 6.4... I am however afraid of the previous owner. At 120k you really want to get FULL records and an Oasis report to find out what has been done and if there are any reoccurring issues (such as oil cooler, hpfp, or coolant leaks/rad failures).

My 6.4 just rolled over 120k, it is deleted however (deleted at 90k). The cab has been up once for a turbo replacement and up pipes. Other than that it has been trouble free, that said before I hit 150k she will have new rocker arms and push rods... If the truck you are looking at is stock and it hasn't had rocker arms done yet factor in the expense for that. Never buy a 6.4 without having a reputable diesel shop inspect it, well hell never buy ANY diesel without having it inspected by someone who works on them every day (and is not affiliated with the dealer you are buying from).

I have to assume you do not have a monitor, without one there isn't much that we can help you with as far as finding issues. That's why I say pay the $60 bucks most shops charge for a prepurchase inspection BEFORE you put any money down.

Lastly, why not a 6.7? When a 6.4 fails it will cost you more in the long run than just buying a 100k 6.7... Don't get me wrong, a deleted 6.4 drives better than a stock 6.7 does. But when these trucks break they will destroy your bank account if you haven't prepared for it. The 6.4 is the Ferrari of the diesel world, easy to make them go fast but the upkeep and cost of repairs is absolutely insane.
