Yes, you can replace the small bearing that is inside the large sealed unit bearing. Most ford parts stores will say you cant do this and try to sell you a whole unit bearing assembly

Wow! Wished I knew this before I spent the $$$. I looked all over and found nothing but replacing the whole thing. Do you have the bearing number for future reference? I'm assuming a standard style bearing pullout and reset?

I don't have the number. I tapped it out from the opposite side. Took it to a bearing shop and said "2 of these please" He took a couple measurements, took about $15 bucks from me and sent me home with 2 new bearings! I have to do my recently new to me 2008 right quick here, as well as the u-joints and such.

How in the world did I miss this?? Sorry bronco6767, you obviously CAN replace just the bearing! Now all I have to do is get over spending $160 more than I really needed to. It is all shiney and new looking though!

Any BDI (Bearing Distributor Inc.) can get you anything that has a number on it even some that dont. All they need is the critical dimensions and application and they can match it. Generally pennies on the dollar over OEM stealership prices. Just be sure to ask for non-chineasium junk. As thats what they will try to sell you first when there are several alternatives, from Japanese to Swiss to German to USA. All are better then the fore mentioned junk.
