Cab Removal '59 F100

Do I have to drop the steering column out through the bottom in order to remove the cab?

Cab

Yes you do. It's a good time to clean up and evaluate the steering gearbox assembly. I don't remember if yours is a 4x4, if it is, the box is heavier than the standard 2 wheel drive box, so don't swap it out for a rebuilt box, get it rebuilt instead. Also install a zirc fitting into the filler cap so you can fill box with a good quality grease after reinstall. I was able to reuse my box. Went to napa to get new output rubber seal

it was late at night when I posted my question. i have the front end completely removed. it is a 4X4. After looking in the daylight it doesn't seem to be such a large task. i took out all of the screws in the cab, the split plate around the steering column today. Wasn't sure about the horn. It looks pretty fragile.
I think I saw the cap but did not know it came with grease inside. It doesn't appear to be too heavy.
What do you suggest i do with the transmission and clutch. Might be a good time to send to a shop? It operated ok the last time i drove the vehicle 16 yrs ago.

mime ran fine before I restored vehicle, clutch was nearly new. Back together the main bearing in transmission whines, as does the throw out bearing. I had a quote of 900.00 to rebuild transmission and new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. I wish I had done it when cab was off😩

Thanks Marc. It sure will be easier without the new paint to get in my way. Mine ran good too but has set for a decade.

Just remove the steering wheel and the shifting lever. I just did this today. Pulled the cab up and over the steering column and now I just put the wheel back on to help move the frame around.

Tons more pics on the trucks page.. https://www.facebook.com/THEUGLYTRUCKLING/

For me it was safer and easier to remove steering column assembly, don't have to lift can as high or rotate it and risk bending or breaking something. It already is a little harder to do when it is a 4x4 and frame is higher up

Yeah, we used the Skid-Steer in the background to lift.
